Marlowe Gandrud

U.S. Veteran

Marlowe Gandrud, 64, Stanley, North Dakota, died Thursday, November 3, 2011 in Fargo. His funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at American Lutheran Church, Stanley. Visitation is Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Springan Funeral Home, Stanley.

Bouncing baby boy Marlowe Calvin Gandrud was born on June 26, 1947 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND to Selmer and Hattie Gandrud. He went to Stave Township School, Donnybrook School, and graduated from Stanley High School. He started working for North Central Airlines in Chicago, IL in 1967 as a booking agent. While working at this position and attempting to make a seat reservation for a customer, he called agent 159 in Milwaukee, who, according to Marlowe, had the sweetest voice he had ever heard. He made a date with her over the phone. Not long after, on April 13, 1968, he married agent 159, Cathleen Ellen Munsch. On April 12, 1968 he received his draft notice and served in the Army until May 1971, after which, he returned to work for North Central airlines. He bought the family farm in 1982 and lived there until 2004. Marlowe enjoyed being involved in toastmasters and took line-dancing classes with Cathy. He also enjoyed time in his wood working shop, drinking coffee uptown and visiting with friends, but mostly spending time with and bragging about his grandchildren. His tall tales, wonderful sense of humor, and laugh will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Survivors: Sons: Jeremy, Shannon, Jamie (Teresa), Andrew (Melinda), Aaron (Nikki), Seth, and Nicholas; Daughters: Kari (Josh) Cook, Kali Gandrud (Travis Charnetzki), Kimberly (Beau) Vachal, and Kayla Gandrud; Grandchildren: Ashley, Justin, Anthony, Trista, Colton, Lane, Garrett, Kaydence, Jaxson, William, Nevaeh, Katelyn, Ashton; Great Granddaughters: Eva and Emma; Brothers and sister: Milford (Ona) Gandrud, Marlin (Debbie) Gandrud, Lynette (John) Erickson; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend of the family- Moe’s “other daughter” Brianna Meiers.

He was preceded in death by his wife Cathleen, parents Selmer and Hattie Gandrud, and sister LaDonna Olaf.
