Jack Redmond

U.S. Veteran

Jack Redmond, 70, from rural Tioga, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at his ranch of injuries suffered in a ranching accident. Memorial service is Saturday, August 25, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Tioga. Private family burial will follow at a later date. Memorials are preferred to donor’s choice. Online condolences may be shared at www.springanfuneralhome.com. Jack Redmond was born to Eugene and Rose (Volesky) Redmond on November 9, 1941 on their homestead in Belfield, North Dakota. Growing up on the ranch, Jack developed a lifelong compassionate understanding of horses, cattle, border collies and even cats. He and his five brothers and two sisters learned early the value of a strong work ethic and a strong faith. Jack was a true adventurer and left home at an early age to pursue opportunities and chase his dreams of working on a cattle ranch. Along the way, he had many diverse experiences that heightened his appreciation and curiosity of the world. He worked with heavy equipment building roads and served in the 101st Airborne as a paratrooper. He then spent decades working in the oil field. He worked on offshore oil rigs in Alaska, and drove tandem trucks hauling oil equipment for Lawrence Transportation. He worked for many drilling contractors, starting on an oil rig throwing chain and working his way up to Rig Manager where he drilled the first horizontal well in North Dakota. During this time, Jack’s hard work enabled him to quietly follow his dreams of owning his own cattle ranch On February 12, 1967, this red-haired Irish cattleman married Corrine Ramberg in St. Thomas Catholic Church on Dakota Street in Tioga. When asked why he fell so hard for this beautiful girl, he would only say, "her beauty". Together, life’s opportunities took this young couple to Alaska where their daughter Stacy was born. They returned to Tioga and were blessed with another daughter, Stephanie, and a son, John. Now, as a family, they continued to follow their dreams together. Jack continued to work long days for many years to allow them to purchase property to raise livestock. By the early 1990’s, Jack was in position to devote his entire efforts to ranching and the Redmond Ranch continues to prosper. Jack had an unmatched love for life and learning. He enjoyed telling ranching and oil field stories while laughing and slapping his knee. Many remember him as a loyal friend that could always be counted on when help was needed. Jack will be forever missed by the many who loved him. His wife, Corrine of Tioga, their children,Stacy (Tom) Bendl of Avon, Ohio, Stephanie (Joel) Vagts of Tioga, John (Mia) of Escondido, CA and grandchildren Rachel, Ashley, Kennedy, and Jackson. Also, surviving him are 5 brothers: Jerry (Rose) Redmond, Pat (Bev) Redmond, Tom (Jeanie) Redmond, Connie (Glenda ) Redmond all of Belfield ND, Bill (Joann) Redmond of Bismarck ND, and one sister, Wainetta“Babs”Lundeen of Billings MT along with many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Maggie Schwartz.
