Tamara “Tami” Lynn Lucy, 54, of Minot, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Trinity Nursing Home in Minot after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Tami Lucy was born on July 21, 1958, the second of five children, to Mike and Marilyn Lucy in Powers Lake, ND. She graduated from Powers Lake High School in 1976. Tami had a love of music and writing. During her school years she participated in band, playing tenor saxophone and piano and was an avid poetry writer. She was baptized and confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Powers Lake.

She married Larry Olson in Williston, N.D. in October of 1980 and they later divorced. They had five children, including the loss of a newborn son. She raised her children in Minot and graduated from Minot State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She spent several years as a teacher at Head Start and was also a substitute teacher for Minot Public Schools. She later became a Certified Nurse’s Aide and worked at Trinity Nursing home for a short time before her ALS diagnosis in January of 2009.

Tami handled her illness with grace and dignity. Her strength and resolve were admired by many. Tears and frowns were not allowed. She greeted all her visitors with a beautiful smile and left them with an imprint on their heart. Tami enjoyed playing darts, golf, reading, and camping. She will be remembered for her great wit and sense of humor. She was a true friend to the many people who loved her.

Tami is survived by her sons, Devon Olson and Kade Olson, both of Williston; daughters, Tandilyn Olson of Williston and Kinzee Olson of Minot; her mother, Marilyn Lucy of Minot; sisters, Shanna Lucy of Minot, Taina (Keith) Karow of Stanley and Kalli (Rick) Swanson of Minot; many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Adam Olson; father, Mike Lucy; brother, Vance Lucy; paternal grandparents Ben and Ethel Lucy; and maternal grandparents Otto and Evelyn Tande.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot with lunch following the service. Visitation will be Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m., with a family service to follow at 5:30 p.m., both at the church. Burial will be at the Bethel Cemetery, Battleview, ND at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
